Thaumcraft Research Solver

Aspect recipes & version coverage

The reference below is generated from the same data used by the solver, so you can inspect a connection before using it in your research note.

What is supported?

The current library contains 48 aspects grouped as Thaumcraft and 21 grouped as GTNH extensions. The target is the Thaumcraft 4.2 research-note minigame, historically labeled 4.2.3.5 in this tool. These group labels describe the built-in dataset; they are not a complete inventory of every aspect in every addon.

This dataset has not been certified against a specific GTNH release or every Thaumcraft 4 version. Thaumcraft 6’s research system is not supported. If your modpack changes a component pair or adds an aspect not listed here, the resulting routes may not match your game. Check your installed pack’s aspect display before spending points.

The TC4 and GTNH tabs only filter the visible library. They do not switch recipe versions or disable the other group. To restrict new placements, use the availability toggles beside individual aspects. All aspects start enabled.

Source checks and version limits

On November 2, 2026, we compared 65 of the 69 implemented records with the component declarations in the pinned primary sources below. All 48 base records match Azanor’s Minecraft 1.7.10 API declarations; 10 extension records match GregTech registration and 7 match Forbidden Magic registration. Component order is ignored. A regression test compares the solver’s data with an independently transcribed reference.

“Source checked” means that a direct component pair, or a primal declaration, matches that exact revision. It does not mean we launched Minecraft, tested a complete GTNH release, checked pack overrides, or verified commonness estimates. The GregTech source calls Aequalitas through Gloria custom1 through custom5; TRS uses their displayed names as local identifiers. Forbidden Magic’s Luxuria registration can be disabled by its configuration.

The following implemented extensions remain unverified against a pinned primary declaration: Tempus, Caelum, Tabernus, Terminus. They are visibly marked in the table. These entries remain available for existing notes; disable them if they do not exist or have different components in your game.

TRS does not read your installed mods or automatically synchronize recipes. For checking your installed setup, the GTNH team maintains AspectRecipeIndex, a mod that exposes Thaumcraft recipe information through NEI. Your installed pack remains the final reference.

Found a mismatch? Report the aspect and both component pairs, including your pack version, mod version, and an in-game screenshot or source reference.

How to read a connection

Each compound can connect to either direct component, and each component can connect back to that compound. Lux = Aer + Ignis therefore allows Aer → Lux → Ignis. Aer and Ignis do not connect directly. Sharing a component is not sufficient either: Lux and Motus both contain Aer, but require Aer between them.

Repeating an aspect in different cells is allowed; each newly placed cell contributes to the cost. The solver connects all fixed endpoints into one compatible network and never uses a marked gap.

What the ranking numbers mean

Each primal has a cost of 1. A compound’s cost is the sum of its parents’ costs, calculated recursively. Thus Lux costs 2; Tenebrae, made from Vacuos and Lux, costs 4. A route’s displayed cost adds these values for newly placed cells only. It is a synthesis estimate, not a required count of points already in your inventory.

Simplest counts distinct newly placed aspect types, not total cells. Common averages the commonness of the newly placed cells and rounds to a whole number. Commonness starts with editable estimates from 0 to 100; it is neither a measured drop rate nor a live inventory count.

The rankings reorder the same bounded set of candidates. Cheapest breaks cost ties by fewer placements, then greater commonness; Simplest breaks type-count ties by fewer placements, then lower cost; Common breaks score ties by fewer placements, then lower cost. A better route may exist outside the generated candidate set. See worked examples and exact scores.

Implemented aspect table

These are the component pairs used right now. “Primal” means the aspect has no components in this dataset. Each checked entry links to its original declaration. The GTNH label groups extensions; it does not identify which addon originally introduced an aspect.
